Outside it rains.
Inside it sounds Vivaldi.
Outside and inside Vivaldi and autumn fill my space as I write about Desiderio Delgado, painter and friend.
The memory of our lives is often filled with the memory of landscapes that build our history, landscapes of different places in Spain always present in his painting. Trees, fountains, irrigation ditches, pylons, streams or urban landscapes in which at some point we have felt happy and have shaped our lives. Places and spaces in which, possibly, we have not been but they are familiar and close to us because we have seen them reflected in Desiderio's drawings and paintings and they are already part of our shared memory, his and mine since we met in Cordoba when we were young and we were full of illusions that we still share.
The evolution of his painting can be seen not only in the themes he reflects in it, but also in the way he treats them, in how he has been changing the composition and light and how he conveys his maturity as a painter, sometimes manifesting abstraction in the way he paints details of landscapes, architectural elements or reflections in the water that move him away from the more rigorous figuration of years ago.
Water, trees and details of architectural elements are part of the fundamental thematic axis of this exhibition, showing us how the compositions and the color of his paintings have been reaching a goal that was intuited as an objective since the beginning of his extensive artistic career.
The reflection of the silence sneaks into the exhibition hall under the suggestive light of Madrid's autumn. Silence, light, water and reflection always evoke in me the painting of Desiderio Delgado.
